Reading Corner

November Reading Corner

A great barrier to reading has been removed. I’ve finally worked out how to avoid travel sickness when travelling on the bus! So, I’ve been able to read more physical books than ever before!

I’ve also smashed another reading challenge. Both my Goodreads challenge and the Sci Fi section of Dancing With Sci Fi and Fantasy. I am officially a Complete Alien!

And I’ve also on the verge of winning another Nanowrimo with my 10th(!) redraft of my first novel. It was an interesting redraft as I tried multiple POVs for the first time. I think that was a good decision and I’ll keep it. I’ve also tried out multiple endings to see which one works best. Can’t say one particularly stood out but things may become clearer on editing.

Currently Reading/Listening

  • The Tiger at Midnight by Swati Teerdhala – 25%
  • Red Seas Under Red Skies by Scott Lynch – 82%

New Acquaintances (New Reads)

Old Friends (Re-Reads)

  • The Testaments by Margaret Atwood – I decided to read this again because my next book club meeting nominated this as this month’s book and I wanted to listen to Ann Dowd narrate Aunt Lydia’s sections. Needless to say, I was not disappointed! It wasn’t too long since I reviewed it and my feelings haven’t changed much so I didn’t feel it was worth reviewing it again.

CROWS books

None! Again! I might as well not have this section at all.

Future Engagements

The end is in sight. Only one book left on #Ampersand2019 Reading Challenge and, not counting my current reads, two left on Dancing With Sci Fi and Fantasy. I need to think about what challenges I’ll take on for 2020. If you have any recommendations, let me know in the comments.

  • Some Girls Bite by Chloe Neill – I’ve already had one annoying vampire book. Let’s hope this is better.
  • Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson – Going to have to make a lot of time for this one. I can only hope for a big blizzard to block the roads and ‘trap me’ in the house for days on end.
  • A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness – I was intending to read this as a CROWS book anyway but this fits into my reading challenge nicely too.

Future Meetings

  • Disney Book Tag – Spotted on sweaterfeather and in honour of a certain wintry queen who graced the big screen for the second time.
  • Disney Song Book Tag – Spotted on sweaterfeather. Hey, Christmas puts me in a very Disney mood!

I hope to see you again very soon.
