I’m still on the hunt for any and all Halloween tags to do this month and found this great one on Zezee with Books.
THRILLER: A BOOK THAT WAS AN ABSOLUTE PAGE TURNER
Well, technically, it was an audiobook so it was an ear turner but you get the idea. This was one of those audiobooks that I just seemed unable to stop listening to. I loved Romy, I loved the world building and I loved the ever-twisting story.
SOMEBODY’S WATCHING ME: A BOOK THAT GAVE YOU THE SERIOUS CREEPS
I enjoyed how this book turned all the cliches upside down but let’s just say that I won’t ever look at mushrooms in the same way again.
VAMPIRE: A BOOK YOU HATED SO MUCH IT WAS SOUL SUCKING, I.E INCREDIBLY TEDIOUS TO GET THROUGH
The guy on the chair in the foreground sums up my feelings on this book. The book was confusing, slow and had characters who were both melodramatic and utterly forgettable.
I PUT A SPELL ON YOU: A BOOK FEATURING WITCHCRAFT OR MAGIC
The clue’s in the title but this book provides a good twist on the old tropes, including witches from Salam, and includes witchcraft from other cultures (a big plus).
THIS IS HALLOWEEN: YOUR FAVOURITE TREAT/SNACK TO EAT WHILE READING
Chocolate, whenever I can get it!
TIME WARP: “LET’S DO THE TIME WARP AGAIN.” WHAT BOOK OR BOOKS DO YOU LIKE TO RETURN TO AT THIS TIME OF YEAR?
I don’t have a favourite Halloween book I keep returning to so I’ll just put a book I’d like to re-read around this time. I remember this very fondly and I really need to find time to read the sequel.
HUNGRY LIKE THE WOLF: A BOOK YOU LOVED SO MUCH, YOU DEVOURED IT
I can binge a Heartstopper volume in one sitting, easy. I could easily binge the whole series if I had the time.
THE ADDAMS FAMILY: A BOOK FEATURING A DYSFUNCTIONAL FAMILY
And, it’s all because of Eliza’s idiotic parents who can’t understand anyone who doesn’t live and breathe sport like they do. Little wonder Eliza chooses to live her life online. I’d be tempted to hand this out to parents of teenagers with a label saying ‘here’s what not to do’.
SCARY MONSTERS (AND SUPER CREEPS): A BOOK GENRE THAT YOU ARE SCARED OR INTIMIDATED TO PICK UP
I don’t mind a Stephen King or two but, generally, I’m not a big fan of straight horror. I like dark fantasy and a good bit of dark academia but horror just isn’t for me.
TWILIGHT ZONE: A BOOK WITH A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT AND UNIQUE PREMISE
I could put a lot of the Discworld novels in this entry but I’m going to go with one of my favourites: Going Postal. ‘A former conman with a golem for a parole officer tasked with reviving a practically obsolete post office’ is a pretty unique premise. In fact, it either sounds boring or totally mad. Well, the story is wild but it’s definitely not boring!
I tag anyone else who loves Halloween songs!
I hope to see you again very soon.
