This is an idea I’ve had knocking around my head since I did a prompt for a reading challenge based on picking a randomly selected book from my TBR. I might create a full reading challenge around this but, in the meantime, I decided to create a book tag around it and see how it goes down.
Rules
- Link back to the original creator (The Corner of Laura) and link back to this page (otherwise, the original creator won’t get a notification).
- Thank whoever tagged you and link back to their post
- Go to your preferred random number generator, set the number limit to the exact number of books on your TBR list (on Goodreads or any other equivalent list) and generate 7 different numbers.
- Find the books on your TBR list that correspond with those numbers
- Explain why you added it, try to predict what you will think of it now and decide whether you’re going to keep it on your TBR or delete it.
- (Optional) Challenge yourself to read the ones you decide to keep within seven weeks
- (Optional) Tag 5 or more other people.
Random Book 1
Monstress Volume 7 by Marjorie Liu
I am always on the lookout for the next Monstress series and, as I have dropped very unsubtle hints, I hope to get this one for Christmas.
Keep or Delete?
Keep, without question!
Random Book 2
Improbable Magic for Cynical Witches by Kate Scelsa
I think I added this one to my TBR because I’m a sucker for anything Tarot card related.
Keep or Delete?
Keep.
Random Book 3
The Shadow of the Torturer by Gene Wolfe
I think I saw a good review of this and decided to add it but I can’t remember where I saw it.
Keep or Delete?
Delete. This looks a bit too much of a heavyweight for me.
Random Book 4
Keeper of Enchanted Rooms by Charlie N. Holmberg
This is another one I added because I heard good things about it and I love the premise too.
Keep or Delete?
Keep. I didn’t like The Paper Magician but I’m willing to give the author another chance.
Random Book 5
Fire Becomes Her by Rosiee Thor
I added this because it has an aro/ace main character and that’s a dealmaker for me when it comes to adding books to my TBR.
Keep or Delete?
Keep
Random Book 6
White Is for Witching by Helen Oyeyemi
I think this might be one I added to my TBR from reading a list on witchy books.
Keep or Delete?
Keep
Random Book 7
Burning my Roti: Breaking Barriers as a Queer Indian Woman by Sharan Dhaliwal
This is a book I spotted by chance in a Waterstones. I fell in love with the title at once and
Keep or Delete?
Keep
Not sure if I’ll read these six books since I have other reading challenges on my plate but I’ll certainly try!
I tag
- Elli @ AceReader
- Zezee @ Zezee with Books
- Madeline @ The Bookish Mutant
- Bookforager
- Amaya @ Mauve Mumblings
- Riddhi B @ Whispering Stories
- Hundreds & Thousands
- And anyone else who wants to take a chance with randomness!
thanks for the tag, this looks like a ton of fun!!

Okay so I love this?! An opportunity to sort through my TBR! And it’s fun, so I’ll actually end up not procrastinating on reading!! (hopefully)
Thank you for the tag!
(also I adore the cover of Fire Becomes Her so I’m definitely adding it to my TBR. I’ll never finish the whole list…)

I’ll certainly do this too. Such a great idea. Thanks for tagging me!
And I too might use it to set a TBR for myself. I just reorganized my bookshelves and once again realized how MANY books I have unread. I’d like to get through a good bit of them next year to weed out ones I don’t like.

This seems to be a great way to choose which books I will be reading next year, so I will give this a try.
